The municipality of Hinterhornbach lies in the Hornbach Valley, a side valley of the Lechtal. The village with about 90 inhabitants is situated at an altitude of 1101 m. Hinterhornbach can be reached via a 6 km long road from Vorderhornbach. Due to its special location, the village is an ideal starting point for hikes in the Allgäu Alps. In the immediate vicinity are some of the highest peaks of this mountain group.
