Waltenberger Haus
The Waltenberger Haus is an Alpine Club hut in the Allgäu Alps mountain range. The hut is situated at 2085 m below Mädelegabel mountain. Waltenberger Haus is located between the Rappensee hut and the Kemptner hut near the Heilbronner Weg alpine hiking trail. Heilbronner Weg is a section of the connecting path between the Kemptner and the Rappensee hut and is a popular high-altitude hiking trail. The ascent from the Lechtal can be made from Holzgau via the Schochenalptal valley or from Steeg through the Hochalptal valley. From Holzgau the path leads to Rossgumpenalm hut, through the Schochenalp valley past the lake Schochenalpsee and on to the Heilbronner Weg. The following section is walked along this high trail and after a while you descend to the 2084 m high Waltenberger Haus hut. The Waltenberger Haus is rarely climbed from the Lechtal due to the time-consuming ascent. From Germany an ascent from Oberstorf leads to the hut in 3 to 4 hours. In the immediate vicinity of the hut there are numerous peaks with many levels of difficulty. The best known are the Hochfrottspitze peak, the Mädelegabel mountain, the Trettachspitze peak, the Hohe Licht mountain and the Bockkarkopf mountain. There are also some climbing tours such as the Trettachspitze peak. The Waltenberger Haus hut is open from the beginning of June to the beginning of October. The ascent from the Lechtal requires surefootedness, alpine experience and freedom from vertigo. (especially the Heilbronner Weg section)
