Tour from Hinterhornbach to the Hochvogel

The high bird is a 2592 m high peak near Hinterhornbach. The mountain is one of the most famous peaks of the Allgäu Alps due to its striking form and the first-class view.

The tour started on the morning of August in Hinterhornbach in cloudy weather. In the course of the morning, however, the weather improved noticeably.

On a forest path we went up to the Schwabeck and over the Bäumenheimer Weg to the summit of the Hochvogel. The way back was via the cold angle (up to 45° steep snow field!) and the Fuchs saddle back to Hinterhornbach.

The Bäumenheimer Weg is the more difficult of the two normal routes to the Hochvogel and should only be taken by experienced mountaineers. Some climbing sections of the first degree of difficulty have to be mastered.

The Prinz-Luitpold-Haus is also suitable as a starting point for the tall bird. The ascent from the Alpenvereinshütte takes about 2 to 2.5 hours. The cold angle can be avoided via a partially secured climb over the cross tip.

The ascent to the high bird requires surefootedness, no fear of heights and mountaineering skills. An experienced climber needs 4 to 4.5 hours for the ascent via the Bäumenheimer Weg to the Hochvogel

. Due to an imminent landslide, it is currently not possible or not advisable to walk from Hinterhornbach via Bäumenheimer Weg. (as of June 2020)
